This is not an in-depth review. The Razer Viper V3 Pro Sentinels Edition is the same as the regular version, with the only difference being its looks. If you’re interested in the mouse, feel free to also read our Razer Viper V3 Pro review for a more technical look at the product.
Introduction
When I say that the Razer Viper V3 Pro was the mouse of 2024, I don’t think a lot of people can disagree with me. For starters, it managed to grab the #1 spot as the most used gaming mouse across all of our analyzed games. Secondly, it was quite simply an extremely impressive release on a technical level, and it made its way into many ‘best of’ lists at the end of the year.
Thus, when the Razer Viper V3 Pro Sentinels edition was released, a lot of people naturally got curious. A collab with one of today’s most popular esports teams always goes down well, doubly so when it involves one of today’s most popular gaming mice.
As such, it was no surprise that the Viper V3 Pro Sentinels Edition sold out almost instantly. Luckily, I got a unit. I spent some time with it, wrote down my experience, and took some photos.
Sentinels Collab
The people at Razer are no strangers to collabs. Their popular gaming products come in many different versions, as they join forces with esports legends, fashion brands, and popular trading card games. While some of their collabs seemingly come out of the blue (like that collaboration with Panerai, a luxury Italian watch manufacturer), this one isn’t a surprise.
Zachary “Zekken” Patrone is a Sentinels VALORANT player, and one of the Viper V3 Pro’s most prominent ambassadors. He even won a Masters tournament with the mouse before it was properly released. Combine that with the fact that Sentinels is a massively successful and popular team in general and you’ve got a collab that makes as much sense as bacon and eggs. Or TenZ and changing settings, if you want to stay in the Sentinels vibe.
So, on November 1st 2024, Razer announced the Razer Viper V3 Pro Sentinels Edition.
Looks
With Sentinel’s main color being red, it wasn’t a surprise that the Sentinels Viper was also going to be predominantly red. I like Sentinels as an org, but I am not the biggest fan of red, so I didn’t really expect to love the way the mouse looks. However, when I first unboxed the Viper Sentinels, I immediately put away my reservations.
In renders and on the product page, the Sentinels Viper looks like it has a matte type of finish. In reality, it looks almost translucent. It’s a boring cliche and I’m a bit ashamed of even writing it down, but it’s really hard to capture what it looks like on photo.
The red of the finish is rich and deep, and changes with the lighting conditions. With its deep shade, it’s not a mouse that screams for anyone’s attention, but once you’re looking at it closely, you’ll find that there’s plenty to enjoy. Excuse me for waxing poetically, but the finish of the mouse reminds me of a nice red wine. It’s interesting, layered, and satisfying to look at.
Does that mean that it’s all perfect? No, I wouldn’t say that. Personally, I could do without the ‘SEN’ at the back of the mouse. Just the logo itself would’ve been fine and -to me- a lot classier, but I get that fans of the team won’t have any issues with this.
In any case, if you have a red setup and you want to jazz it up with a fantastic-looking mouse, this one’s a good bet.
Feel
When I first saw the coating, I feared that it would feel like a glossy coating. Not that there’s anything wrong with those, but I absolutely don’t like how sticky and oily they can get.
Luckily, the coating doesn’t feel glossy. It is smooth, but not in a ‘sticky and oily’ way like what you’d get with fully glossy finishes.
In fact, the coating feels very similar to what you’ll find on the regular Viper V3 Pro, with some minor differences. The Sentinels version feels a little bit less grippy for the first couple of minutes, for example, and it’s also a bit ‘smoother’ feeling than the regular version.
With that said: if I mained a Viper V3 Pro I wouldn’t feel weird using this one at all. I think they did a good job at keeping the coatings consistent between these two versions. Your mileage may vary, of course. My hands are pretty much always a little bit sweaty when I’m gaming, so I can’t speak for people who have bone-dry hands at all times.
Lastly, fingerprints are also handled rather nicely. With a mouse that looks like this, it’d be a shame to see it smudged and stained after ten minutes of aim training, but that’s not the case here. From my experience, the Viper V3 Pro Sentinels edition doesn’t need to be cleaned more frequently than an average gaming mouse.
Performance
If you’re wondering about the Viper V3 Pro’s shape, performance, and build quality, I can direct you to my full review. Functionally and structurally, there are no differences between this Sentinels version and the regular version.
What this means is that you’re getting a top performing gaming mouse with a safe shape. You’ve got wireless polling rates of up to 8000Hz, optical switches, and Razer’s latest and greatest Focus Pro 35K Optical Gen-2 sensor. All of this comes in at just 54 grams.
In my review of the Razer Viper V3 Pro, I said that it’s ‘the new benchmark for gaming mice,’ so that should tell you everything you need to know about the performance of this mouse. If you get this, you’ve got no one but yourself to blame for your missed shots.
I like that Razer hasn’t changed anything internally here. I dislike it when brands make changes to recolors of the same mouse without changing the name, as it leads to confusion for consumers and can feed into a sort of FOMO. So I respect the brand’s decision to only change the exterior of this collab version.
Conclusion
The Razer Viper V3 Pro Sentinels Edition is a beautiful version of an already iconic gaming mouse. It’s great for fans of the team, but it’s also a fantastic option for people who want a red setup or people who would just like to try something different.
Even though it’s now neatly stored away in its box (the Viper V3 Pro feels a bit too big/present when gaming for my personal tastes) I enjoyed my time with the mouse, and I am excited to see what other collaborations the brand will come up with in the future. If they all look as good as this one, I’ve got a feeling they’ll sell like hotcakes.
