Introduction
If you ask Wooting, software is key with Hall Effect keyboards. Wootility, their web-based keyboard customization program, has been widely praised over the years, and it’s something that the brand keeps working on and improving. After five months in beta, Wootility V5 is now stable and available for all Wooting keyboards, including their earliest models. In this article, we’ll go over what’s new in Wootility V5.
What’s New
Beyond the usual bug fixes and minor UI tweaks, Wootility V5 introduces several new features.
Enhanced Profile Management
One of the most significant updates in Wootility V5 is in the profile section. Here, everything is now bundled in a single menu. A handy overview displays up to four onboard profiles, with additional space below for inactive profiles. Those inactive profiles are not stored on your keyboard, so you need Wootility to be open in order to use them.
You can now also customize your profiles in Wootility by using different banner icons and colors.
UI Improvements
Wootility is all about ease of use. You can very easily switch between different connected Wooting devices, for example, using the selector in the top right of the program. Wootility V5 also offers various features that make it a breeze to use.
For instance, undo and redo buttons simplify the process of creating complex profiles. Nearly all customizable features now also include a ‘?’ icon that provides explanations when hovered over.
When customizing the behavior of the switches, keys can now display in different colors depending on their sensitivity. This makes it easy to spot which keys are more sensitive than others, and gives you a handy visual overview of the entire board and its ‘sensitivity zones’.
New Switch Behavior Customization Tools
Customizing the way your switches behave is easier than ever before thanks to Wootility V5. Users can now select multiple keys by dragging their mouse. There’s also a simple ‘select all keys’ button if you want to make changes to the entire board. Double-clicking on a key will automatically select all other keys that use the same values.
These features streamline the customization process for both individual keys and larger switch clusters.
Per-Key Rapid Trigger Sensitivity
Rapid Trigger sensitivity can now be set individually on a per-key basis. This makes your Wooting board even more customizable than it already was.
80HE Light Indicator
The LED light bar on the 80HE now has its own section in the Keyboard Configuration tool. There, users can program it to display information (such as your typing speed or how deep you’ve pressed your key) or quite simply set it to a single color. It can also function as a profile or caps lock indicator, among other uses.
Improved Device Handling
Wootility V5 also comes with a number of ‘under-the-hood’ improvements. Devices are now detected much quicker, for example. Wootility notifications no longer appear during firmware updates. Additional improvements include resolving issues related to third-party RGB software.
Conclusion
Many users, including our own reviewer, consider Wootility the best customization programs available. If you look at the changelogs on Wooting’s website, it’s quite clear that the brand is constantly updating and tweaking Wootility, and that’s a great thing for consumers. Wootility is extremely intuitive and easy to use, and it’s only getting better with time, as this newest version lays the groundwork for even more features and improvements down the line.
