The CEO of Silent Hill 2 Remake developer Bloober Team has spoken out on his commitment to physical games media as PlayStation pledges to cease disc production by 2028.
“If we are able to produce a [physical] retail version of our games, we would like to make them for as long as possible,” Piotr Babieno tells GamesRadar+ in an interview. Joined by Tymon Smektala, Broken Mirror Games’ new executive director and former Dying Light franchise director, the duo take a moment to appreciate the roots of their passion for games as the Bloober publishing subsidiary embarks on a journey to discover “the next Kojima” of horror.
“Both me and Piotr, we are from the era where being a gamer meant you are a collector of stuff,” Smektala says, gesturing to the room behind him during the video call. “Like, if I could unblur my screen, you would see lots of stuff behind me and I have lots of stuff that’s not even in the camera, so this is what gaming is to us. This is the gaming I know, and this is the gaming I expect. And as long as it will be possible, and as long as the big decision makers will allow us to have that, then of course I’ll be into that.”

The topic came up when asked about Onyx: The Dark Grip, an upcoming horror game developed by Bloober Team and published by its in-house horror subsidiary Broken Mirror Games. It’ll be one of the first Switch 2-exclusive third-party horror games ever, and the very first to be built entirely for the console’s handheld mode. In the age of DLSS-5 and the worrying encroachment of generative AI in game development, Babieno considers where consoles have left to go.
“We have reached a moment where you can’t really do much more in that direction [of visual and auditory fidelity]. Like, okay, the game can have a slightly higher resolution and maybe better lighting and whatever, but will it make it a more engaging game? I don’t think so.”
In the age of AI, it’s interesting to start thinking about other senses.

Whether players even know or care about these minute changes to the lifelikeness of a game is a question unto itself. “If you even look at the stats, a majority of players are playing on hardware which is five, seven years old, if not older, so they don’t even get to experience those high-level settings at all,” Babieno muses. “But are they less interested in games because of that? I don’t think so.
“I think, especially in the age of AI, it’s actually quite interesting to start thinking about other senses.” This is one of Onyx’s core motivations in being a Switch 2 handheld-only game – it’s “putting horror back in your hands” in a physical sense, says Babieno, using the device as a conduit for the game itself as part of the experience. “As humans, we have four other senses, and AI can deliver something for what you see, for what you hear, but why not touch? I think the physical element of gaming will always, always be there.”
And what of physical games themselves – discs, cartridges, not just consoles? From a business standpoint, Babieno understands why publishers like Sony are going digital – “we do know how P&L works and that digital distribution is much easier, much cheaper, and will be more profitable for everyone,” he says. But, echoing Smektala, there’s another side to that coin.
“Collecting games also [made] an emotional connection between the game and me, between the studio which produced the game and me,” Babieno says. “This little emotional touch is so important that, I think in some way, we would lose the opportunity of being closer with our fans [without it]. So, if we are able to produce a [physical] retail version of our games, we would like to make them for as long as possible.”

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
